The OpenSSL license is quite unique and special. It reflects views from the time when its predecessor SSLeay began twenty years ago. As an additional complication, the original authors were settled by RSA in 1998 and the code was transformed into two versions: OpenSSL and RSA BSAFE SSL-C. (See Wikipedia in discussion.) I do not want to go into specific details, and I certainly do not know all of them. Our plan is to update the license to Apache`s 2.0 license. We consult with various business partners, the ICN, and the legal experts of the Freedom Law Center Software. In other words, we have a lot of know-how and interest at our fingertips. We cannot yet give further details about the change of license. There is a lot of grumbling that is needed to eliminate the delay and unravel all the years of work of the time when no one paid much attention to these kinds of details. But the times are different, we all take care of each other, and we will do the right thing.
It will only take some time and we appreciate your patience. A CLA is important to ensure that we have the rights to distribute the code. This is an easy agreement signed by the copyright holder and gives us the right to redistribute your contribution under OpenSSL. Please note that our CTC does not transfer copyright to us and does not limit your rights. Please note that volume licenses are only agreements and do not usually come with software media. This may require the purchase of a media package at the same time as the license agreement. Please note our License Media Packs category for our latest offers. RSA volume license orders are first checked by a Provantage license specialist to verify completeness and authorization. Eligible orders are then processed by one of RSA`s authorized distributors. Please note that distributors need several days to process certain license orders.
